A Modern Wedding

Aly and Eric's vibrant and modern wedding took place on March 7th at the Davis Island Garden Club in Tampa, Florida. The wedding and reception took place outside next to the Tampa Bay shore. The vibrant contrasts of orange and green along with the highly textural look of the Spider Mums and Gerbera Daisies created the overall look and feel of the wedding day.

Round glass bowls with bright orange Gerbera Daisies, green Spider Mums, Bear Grass and orange Tulips lined the aisle on Shepard hooks.

Tierra Verde Wedding

Saturdays wedding was truly a Florida coastal wedding with a beachy, antique look and a bit of a modern twist. Sarah and Matt were married February 6, 2010 in Tierra Verde at Tampa Bay Watch. Tampa Bay Watch was modeled after the Boca Grande light and embodies traditional Florida coastal architechure.

Allison Spivey with Polka Dot Weddings and Events was the event coordinator. David Krantzberg with Basia Mille Photography did the photography. I also had an amazing team to help me set up that day! Thank you Joyce and Darrell :)

Angela & Williams Wedding

Flowers by Fishhawk Weddings

Angela and William were married on January 23, 2010. The ceremony was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tampa, FL. The beautiful stained glass windows and incredible architecture made the perfect setting. The reception was at the Palma Ceia Country Club in Tampa, FL. Angela chose dark chocolate, ivory and a soft peach for her wedding colors.

Allison with Polka Dot Wedding and Events was the wedding coordinator and did a fabulous job putting together all the details.

Centerpiece Trends

A few tip I have learned in working with the brides in designing their centerpieces are 2 words, "express personality". Pick what you want and let it reflect who you are. All the things that you do different are what guests will remember and it doesn't have to cost you a fortune. Here are a few tips I found on The Knot to help get your creativity flowing and some of the biggest trends right now in wedding centerpieces.

Casting a Glow

Candles have always been responsible for adding romance to the table and the room. Floral experts are taking the concept a step further this season by incorporating candles within the centerpieces themselves. This works on tall, full arrangements such as cherry blossom branches, where votives can be hung on ribbon or wire-like hangers. Alternatively, tall cylinders can be filled with colored water to match the wedding palette, and small floating candles can be placed in each.

Eclectic Foundations

To create a one-of-a-kind, each-table-is-different look, floral experts are turning to a mixed collection of vases as the basis for their arrangements. For an Asian-inspired look, designers are filling an assortment of sleek glass vases, bowls, and thin cylinders with natural objects like river rocks or sea glass and then grouping them together in threes. More traditional arrangements include collections of small silver containers -- trumpet vases, silver bowls, and jewelry boxes as building blocks for arrangements. For a Baroque look, an assortment of gold boxes, urns, and bowls sitting on gold trays work well.

Keeping the View

It's hard to have a conversation with the person across the table when there's a big centerpiece blocking your view. To mitigate this, designers are making increased use of glass and Lucite containers, which add height to the table, but don't entirely restrict sight lines. Consider using short square and tall rectangular glass vases spaced evenly apart down a banquet table. The look is spatially interesting and still functional.

Simple Presentations

This season, the look is streamlined. Vases are packed with one kind of blossom for a chic, contemporary feel, or are made up of many different kinds of flowers in just one color. A look we love? An all-green centerpiece full of blossoms with different textures -- Queen Anne's lace, wheat grass, and woodsy leaves such as maiden fern.
